Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a constant cough that DR s think is from allergies. My cough almost makes me choke. It s worse after I eat. And at times when I m eating I have a difficult time swallowing, I need to wait between bites and slow down my eating or drink some water to help the food go down Are these two things related to something wrong?
Chronic cough can be due to various reasons. definitely allergy is the most common cause. however there are other reasons also. it can be due to chest infection like pneumonitis, when it is usually associated with fever and mucopurulent expectoration.
Even chronic smoking can also cause bronchitis and cough. If you have blocked nose or post nasal drip even that can cause chronic cough. Also gastritis and acid reflux can cause cough.
So we need to analyse by detailed history and examination.Meanwhile try to avoid dust and smoke, do gargles and take steam. also avoid spicy and oily food.
Besides this I feel that you should get your investigations done like complete blood count, esr, and chest xray.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Milinda Gupta
