Suggest Treatment For Constant Sinus Problems After Molar Extraction

I keep trying to get through but it will not allow me to :( ..here are my text messages : constant sinus problems stemming from 2 molar extraction on july 2nd last year, dental student broke root tip off and left it in my sinus without telling me..have been sick all of these months and now i have to basically live with a neti-pot as food keeps regurgitating into my nasal passages and either out my nostril, or down my throat or sometimes into my windpipe, making me choke..i am petrified and have no one to help me, on social security, am 65, female, multiple conditions..went to dental school to have ONE root canal and left 8 hours later in this condition...please help me with info that i cannot get from local primary care and/or oral surgeon who wants to perform 3 surgical procedures, 1 of which he must put me under general anesthesia and be intubated...i am very frightened and beside myself...
also, he only saw cat scan that was done night of extractions in the hospital as i had to call 911 due to what i had suffered through..they kept me 2 days...

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain if you have a root piece slipped into the sinus it is definitely the cause of SINUSITIS and the removal of the root piece from the sinus cavity followed by antibiotic therapy to wean off the infection is necessary..

At times if the root piece can be retrieved through the socket itself the surgeon does it by placing a sterilized piece of gauze dipped in betadine into the sinus with the help of tweezers and retrieve the root piece followed by placing stitchess on the gum flap so that the healing takes place and the communication between the moth and sinus is closed..

In case if it is not possible a direct surgical approach by perforating the jaw bone near canine region and retrieving the root piece is done.

You need not to be worried as a qualified oral surgeon can very well evaluate your case through a C T scan and decide the treatment plan as he gets the view of the sinus and the adjoining structures through different angulations in a C T Scan.

If you are still not satisfied you can consult another oral surgeon for a second opinion before you decide to proceed for treatment..

Hope your query is solved..
