Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I am a 24 year old female. Just recently had my first child in Nov. Been married 3 years and work in the healthcare field. My pulse has been over 100 at all times for a while now. Resting yesterday was 135, but I also have the flu at the moment. I've never had any heart problems that I'm aware of. I plan to see a specialist but is this something I need be worried about?? And what are different courses of treatment typically used in a younger adult??
I understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that in your case there are two causes of increased heart rate: 1. One is the ongoing flu 2. Is the pregnancy which just got over
Both the conditions poses an extra work load and increased metabolic demand in the body, to compensate this heart has to beat fast. This is a physiological tachycardia which do not require any kind of treatment as it will settle by itself in a month or so. Also don't take unnecessary meds as you will pass them in breastfeeding milk to baby.
Wish you Good Health
