I have to take a laxative to have a bowel movement and I constantly have a bloated feeling, plus my stomach is distended what type of dr. should I see for this situation. I have been on lizeness at one time, the maximum dosage and nothing changed. The otc lax works better.
Hello, Thank you for using HCM. Constipation is very common complaint and helpful measures may be: 1. Medications- are helpful but they do not cure constipation so the other measures mentioned below (at nr 2) are very important for long term treatment. - lactulose syrup can help. - Polyethylen glycol -Psillium (fiber)
- senna and dulcolax can help but cause bowel dependance- so if you use them too often you will be needing them more and more.
2. Important practical advices - balanced diet with fruit and vegetable. Dry plums are rich in fiber, oat and cereals for breakfast also - drink plenty of water - Exercise at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a week and try to be active. - go to have a bowel movement in the morning and after food is much easier also. Do not ignore the times you feel you need to go and have a bowel movement.
3. reminders: if you are over 50 you will need a colonoscopy as a routine test to check your bowel. Speak with your doctor on this. Hope this is helpful and answers to your question
