Suggest Treatment For Constipation And Brown Mucus In Stool

My mom is regularily constipated and when she does manage to go here stoolis either small and hard,or boomerang shape but both are accompanied by mucus and brown thread like substances. She feels awful all the time. Tired,bloated,cramps,intestinal pain,etc.Any suggestions on a cause?
