Suggest Treatment For Constipation While On Percocet

In early september I had neck surgery. For a week prior, and two weeks after I was given percoset 10mg for pain. This caused terrible constipation. I had no bowel movements for six days, then they began and were VERY aggressive. I visited my gastro doctor, and he gave me meds for hemmoroids, and suggested I take some mira-lax. Im still having discomfort in my lower stomach and and rectum ONLY when I have a bowel movement. However, if I go a day without a bowel movement there is no discomfort. What do you think or suggest?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management, you can take laxatives like lactulose for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

A colonoscopy is required in severe cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
