General & Family Physician 's  Response
There are two types of laxatives. One is a purgative that increases the force of contraction of the bowels in order to push the stool out. In the process, it may cause tears in the rectum and cause bleeding as in your case. Please note that your SHOULD NOT take such a medicine. The other variety is stool softeners which you need to take. Take lactulose syrup a couple of spoonfuls or some fibre supplement like isabgol husk at dinner and that will help in improving your stool. You also need to take a high fibre diet. I hope that with these interventions you will be fine.
