Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I believe that I am constipated as I have not had a bowel movement in about a week and a half. I took some laxatives about 6 hours ago. Assuming this first dose doesn t work what else should I do? How long should i wait before I should see a doctor. Currently my eating habits have not changed in the sense of what I eat but has changed in how much I eat as I have had really aweful vertigo all last week and barely ate anything. Now that I have my head on a little straighter I realized I haven t had a bowel movement in over a week. Everytime I try to eat something I eat about something that is the portion size of a cookie and then I m full. This is mildly concerning as I ve had diarrhea my whole life and constipation is new to me on a personal level.
The herbal laxative Senna is commonly used to relieve constipation. It is available over-the-counter or online and can be taken orally or rectally (42).
Senna contains a number of plant compounds called glycosides, which stimulate the nerves in your gut and speed up your bowel movements. If the symptoms continue you should see your doctor
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
