Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have severe constipation. I am 79yrs old and have end stage COPD, which requires quite a bit of medication so I can breathe, and constipation is side effect of all. Am using lactulose and miralax, lots of prune juice, but when I go to the bathroom nothing solid, just very loose. Also have hietal hernia, and due to feeling full and bloated all the time cannot eat properly. I weigh 109 lbs and am 5' 2. Hope you have an anser for me.
Stool can be loose as you are taking many drugs and lactulose also.... If frequency per day is less then 3 then no need for worry....
Because of hiatus hernia bloating and acid reflux can be there. For that antacid like omeprazole can be given.... Head elevation while sleeping. Avoid recumbent position immediate after meal.... Excess fatty and spicy food not taken. As you have COPD you might have smoking habit...So avoid it.... Coffe , chocolate less.
If life impairment more then surgical correction needed.
To avoid constipation more fluid and activity done with more fruits.
Take care.
