Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have bowel obstruction of some sort. I have seen a gastro Dr., and now seeing a rectal Dr. and therapy for a tight sphincter muscle. I had a complete hysterectomy many years ago and had adhesions on my bowel then and also with a surgery for ovary removal. I have been severely constipated for 10 months now and take Miralax to be able to go. My therapist says I need to see the dr. again as nothing is changing, except for my pelvic floor muscles are getting stronger with the therapy. I think I have adhesions that have grown back on my bowel and causing some obstruction somewhere. I am going to see a different rectal Dr. for a second opinion. I welcome any advice.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Abdominal hysterectomy, ovarian removal have caused the adhesion and hence there may be the problems of bowel obstruction and constipation. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Get an Enteroclysis that is barium study of the bowel under fluoroscopy to see for the site and extent of obstruction. If the obstruction of any sort is present one needs definitive surgery to get a proper relief. Consult a General Surgeon instead for proper clinical evaluation, examination, investigations and proper management.
