Hi,

Cough and chest tightness could be caused by a respiratory infection (like acute bronchitis, pneumonia), allergy, lung masses, and heart issues. As for the symptoms of acute bronchitis:

- a cough, which may continue beyond 10 days and contain clear or colored mucus

- chest tightness

- shortness of breath

- wheezing

- a low-grade fever or a high fever may be an indication of a secondary infection such as pneumonia

- chest pain

- a sore throat from persistent coughing

Bronchitis and most respiratory infections are caused by respiratory viral infection and symptomatic treatment will do. However, bacteria infection or super infection are possible and will need antibiotics.

I will suggest you to see the doctor for examination and a chest x-ray. Other tests that may also help are full blood count, ESR. This will help in diagnosis if bronchitis or pneumonia. In the meantime, I will advise you try the following:

* Conitnue with mucinex
* Take an anti-inflammatory like tylenol
* An anti-histamin like loratadine
* Avoid cold, dust and smoke
* Regular sips of water

If any arguments in favour of a bacteria infection, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics.

Hope this will help. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wish you speedy recovery!

Regards,
