Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a cough and nasal congestion. A runny nose is common. I believe that once a Doctor suggested some type of reflux and not a nasal issue. Any suggestions? I am at the end of a cold so perhaps it is just a symptom of the cold, which otherwise seems to have passed.
Cough and nose congestion after a cold can last further then the cold itself and sometimes is due to the regeneration that needs to take place in the area or due to some allergy or sensitivity of the nose mucosa that develops for a short time after the cold and should be better within a week or two.
You can help the symptoms by doing nasal lavage with saline solution 1-2 times a day to clear the nose mucosa and dilute and remove any secretions there. You can take over the counter medications for cold and that contain antihistamine and epinephrine like rinostop. Also make sure you drink plenty. Any cough that lasts more than 3 weeks needs a check with the doctor. In this case acid reflux from the stomach might be the case but other conditions of the lungs need to be ruled out as well.
I hope this answers your query. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
