Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Is he having any preexisting diseases like ischemic heart disease or asthma? When is cough more- at night, day, or during exertion? What is the colour of sputum if any? Any nasal discharge, chest pain or breathing difficulty?

A recent onset cough can suggest a respiratory infection, asthma exacerbation or a cardiac issue. If I were your treating doctor, depending upon examination findings, I would have ordered a chest x ray and blood routine test, and proceed further accordingly. Your doctor will guide you. Meanwhile, taking antihistamine like Levocetirizine 5mg at night can reduce cough associated with flu or respiratory infections.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
