Suggest Treatment For Coughing And Presence Of Pouch In Throat
I have a pouch in my throat, verified last year using x-ray and barium. Sometimes I can hold my fingers against my throat (like I am choking myself) and cough up as much as one or two medium size pieces of food equivalent to medium sized grapes. Mostly meat gets stuck. Can I have surgery to fix and what is the recovery period. I am in very good health, age 67, height 6 foot weight 175. Thanks
Very likely by what you explain you are having an esophageal diverticulum. The final treatment for such a diverticulum is with surgery so you may need to talk with your doctor on the chance of you having the surgery to definitely treat it. The recovery period will depend on the type of diverticulum that you are having and the type of intervention the doctor chooses to perform but it is generally a well-tolerated surgery with good outcomes.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
