Hi,
The commonest reasons I can think about are as follows:
Cervical spondylitis is one of the major reasons.
Stress and
anxiety not allowing sound sleep can cause similar problems.
Fibromyalgia as the history is for few years.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Clinical evaluation, an examination by an Orthopedic Surgeon.
MRI if the
cervical spine and muscles.
relevant tests of blood including that for uric acid, RA factor and so on.
First of all try to avoid stress and anxiety as these either instigate or enhance the pains.
Take an anti-inflammatory with
muscle relaxant for a few weeks under the prescription of your treating Doctor.
Liniments that give warmth to the area, called as Rubefacients.
Use Neck support.
Further management as per the findings.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
