Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I just started taking 40mg a day of prednisone for my Crohn s. Have had Crohn s for twenty years...had 12in of small intestines removed twenty years ago. Was on prednisone before surgery for almost 3 years. Have not had any issues since surgery but was on antibiotic five weeks ago for ear infection. Started having so much nausea from antibiotic and did not go away after stopping antibiotic so family doctor said I needed to see my GI doctor. GI doctor is 95% sure that I have a little Crohn s inflammation. Doctor prescribed 40mg of prednisone for two weeks and then tapper down 10mg every two weeks for next 8 weeks. During the whole ear infection issue my anxiety flared up so family doctor put me on 20mg of Celexa, which I have been on before. Been on prednisone for five day now and have noticed little more nervousness and anxiety, particularly in morning when I wake up. Sleeping has not been good for weeks so started taking .5mg of clonazepam at bed time to help sleep. I know this is a lot of info but I guess I have a couple of questions: 1. I m assuming the nervousness is coming from prednisone, but will it decrease? 2. Is it a better time of day to be taking antibiotic and Celexa? Thanks
The Crohn`s control is multiple system approach. Along with steroid, there can be addition of holistic healers as honey, ginger in the regular intake if not contraindicated medically.
Anti anxiety apart from sedative pills help great to relieve the intestine. Acute flare ups require additional GI antibiotic and probiotics as well. Take care.
