Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi so I have had an abscess or cyst on my right testical for about 8-10 months. I was hoping it would just go away but it never did. So last week I went to see a local San Diego urologist. She went through all the normal medical questions before examining me. Upon examination she said it appeared to be an abscess. It was like a pea sized bump that was red and swollen on the outside of my testical. So she prescribed me that antibiotic sulfamethoxazole. I have been taking it for about a week now. The abscess seemed to go down on the outside of my testical but now there seems to be a bigger lump growing inside the skin. It s also very sensitive to touch and hurts. Very uncomfortable. So what I m asking is, is this normal, the swelling underneath the skin? Why is it hurting? Is that the antibiotics doing there job or is there something wrong?
No It is not normal. Although Sulfamethoxazole is a good antibiotic and covers most of the gram positive and negative bacteria but it seems it is not effective here. I would suggest you to have Incision and drainage of the abscess and have it covered with broad spectrum antibiotics and antiinflammatory medications. Also check your blood sugar levels. Thanks.
