Suggest Treatment For Cyst On The Lower Buttocks

My mother-in-law is 99 yo and suffers with a cyst on her lower left buttock. She has already been to the doctor and dermatologist about this and was prescribed steroids and antibiotic ointment. She is having another flare-up and I am wondering about pain relief for her as far as comfort and sitting. She can only sit for maybe 15 minutes at a time before she has to lay back down.

Thank you for asking Healthcare majic.

My name is Dr Ehsan Ullah &
I have gone through your query.

The treatment of cysts is of two types ;

Conservative treatment which is as course of Antioboitcs and pain plus inflammation relieving medications given for a time period in order to let Cyst settle without intervention

If this medical treatment fails or the symptoms aggravate then
other option is of
Surgical drainage & or Excision of the Cyst.

Since you have mentioned the location as Lower left buttock so it's probably not the Pilonidal Cyst

( Pilonidal cyst occurs at the bottom of the tailbone (coccyx) and can become infected and filled with pus. Once infected, the technical term is pilonidal abscess) .

If you have started prescribed medicines recently then better you should wait and continue treatment if symptoms are not aggreviating ... since you need to re-consult your physician in case of symptoms get more severe inspite of treatment.

Once you have complete the course of medicines then you will have to evaluate the symptoms of the illness and patient's condition whether there is need of further visit to physician or not .

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
