Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am an enrolled member and live in a tribal community, some of my siblings are dark, but some like myself, are really light skinned and don t get much darker no matter how much sun we get, even though we all have the same Native blood degree. This has caused us much emotional pain. Is there anything we can do to make ourselves darker permanently?
Skin tanning creams and lotions can help darken the skin using chemicals. These are not true tans but can definitely make the skin look darker. There are also tanning pills that contain a food-safe dye that gets deposited in your skin leaving a tan-orange pigment. This dye is called canthaxanthin.
This would be another way to appear darker. In the future, there might be methods that control your melanocytes to become more active and produce more pigment or less active and produce less pigment but right now there is no safe way to do so, consult with skin specialist if available now days new one.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
