Suggest Treatment For Degenerative Arthritis In The Back
Hello, approx 6 months ago I went to hosp .w\ lower back pain...after an x-ray showed bone spurs on my spine doc diagnosed degenerative arthritis in my back. I am told it s quite normal for my age..I m a 58 year old otherwise fairly healthy female. I was trying to find more info and alternatives to surgery or medication ..such as exercise to improve my strength and flexibility.. thanks for your input!!!
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Exercise can improve muscle strength and help to stabilize the joints and also help to reduce the pain associated with arthritis. The best way to determine the exercises that would be beneficial would be to see a physiotherapist. A physiotherapist would be able to show you which exercises would be beneficial and least likely to cause any harm. You may only need one or two sessions then be able to do the rest of the exercises at home.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
