Suggest Treatment For Degenerative Disc Disease And Sciatica

I currently suffer from degenerative disc disease and sciatica. For almost a year I have had chronic aching in my legs, specifically my calves. My doctor and I have attributed the leg pain to my lower back issues and the sciatica. However, I have been reading information lately that suggests calf pain may be related to blood clots. There is no shortness of breath, only calf pain and tenderness. The pain intensifies at night and can be unbearable. I take tramadol for my back pain, but find myself taking a vicodin at 2 or 3 a.m. when I can no longer stand the pain. A heating pad offers some relief as well. I am 52 years old and a diabetic as well. Should I have my doctor zero in on the calf pain?
