Suggest Treatment For Dementia And Behavioral Issues
My aunt age 86 has dementia & is in assisted living home She has a behavioral problem spitting all over the floor where ever she goes. The Dr put her on 250 mg of dupacote twice a day seems to work She now spits in a Kleenex and puts it in her plastic bag connected to her walker Is this a good thing?
* The Dupacote contains Divalproex sodium used for variety of seizure disorders with excellent clinical results.
* The drug is having multiple side effects as nausea and alteration in liver function tests which can be cause of spitting problem.
So far as dementia is concerned, the treatment would be only supportive as many of the age related changes do not reverse and on the contrary, it progresses as the age raises.
Kindly get her latest lab reports available with you and send it to me for further discussion.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
