Dear Doc! I m a 26 year old male working in an insurance company. Few months back, before going to sleep i suddenly felt numbness/tightness in my left hand. I consulted my doc and he said that you are suffering from anxiety and there is nerve problem. So he gave me Inderal and Bevidox. I assured my doc that i don t have any depression or anxietty. My left hand/palm area is now better but there is numbness occasionally. Now, i feel pain at back of my head. Pl. advice
Anxiety or depression can cause or worsen some symptoms but they do not usually cause nerve-related symptoms though they can worsen how the person deals with them if already there.
You may want to consider an X-ray of the neck or shoulder to see if there are any changes here that may affect the nerves. The nerves to the arm and hand pass through this area.
In addition blood tests for thyroid function, screening for diabetes, vitamin b12 and folate levels, liver and kidney function should also be considered as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
