Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I've been a long time struggler with depression and anxiety, I have been diagnosed previously with depression, ptsd and social anxiety disorder. I once was taking paxil and a small dose of klonopin daily while I was in college, but I wasn't able to continue due to financial reasons. I recently have lost my grandfather and and having trouble with depression and anxiety again but I'm not comfortable seeing a psychiatrist again. I was wondering if there are any treatments I could use that didn't involve a prescription or if I am out of luck because I'm too uncomfortable seeing a psychiatrist.
You have depressive disorder and anxiety. You have also been diagnosed with PTSD and social anxiety disorder. You have just lost your grand father and the symptoms have been aggravated. Now coming to your management-
Best thing that can be be done in anxiety is to consult a psychiatrist for treatment. But you don't want to visit a psychiatrist. In such case I would advise you to go for Behaviour Therapy along with relaxation exercises like Jacobson's Progressive Muscle Relaxation (JPMR), Breathing Exercises, Yoga, Meditation etc. This will help to reduce the anxiety symptoms. Cognitive Therapy with a psychologist helps to correct faulty thought processes and cognitive distortions and will help in depressive symptoms. Visit a psychologist for details.
If symptoms persist even after consulting psychological methods then visit a psychiatrist for treatment.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
