Suggest Treatment For Depression Despite Taking Citalopram

My anxiety and depression (we think) seems to be worse, fluctuating from feeling ok to being scared by the minute. Had this now for 2.5 yrs and have had good periods, but now I am making thing up to scare myself. I am on citalopram 40mg a day and propranolol 20mg as and when needed up to 3 a day. These seem to me to have stopped working, can this happen. Chris.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Usually, the patient improves well with citalopram medication.

But if no improvement than short term three to four-month course of a benzodizepine group of drugs also needs to be prescribed like alprazolam.

The behavioural counselling also need to be done when only medication not working.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
