Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Your father is suffering from depressive disorder since 1992 and was on treatment. Now since last 3 years he was not getting proper relief with medicines and he stopped to take medicines.

Depression is a mood disorder and depression occurs in episodes. With time some individuals may develop recurrent depression and symptoms persist even on medicines. Common antidepressants like SSRIs or SNRIs fail to help in such cases. So to treat resistant depression augmentation of antidepressant drugs is done by medicines like Lithium, Lamotrigine, Bupropion etc drugs. These drugs helps in resistant depression along with conventional antidepressants. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription and help.

Brain stimulation methods like ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy), Vagal Nerve Stimulation, RTMS (Trans cranial magnetic stimulation) etc are found to be useful in resistant depression. If he fails to get relief with medicines you can go for these methods with consultation of a psychiatrist.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
