Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to HCM

The depressive symptoms with self harm warrant urgent attention. You have such symptoms since teen age years. Such symptoms can occur due to two main issues-

- One possibility is depressive disorder. Depression mainly severe depression is some times associated with intent of self harm or suicide. It runs in chronic course and can even last for months.

- Other possibility is some personality issues. Repeated episodes of self harm with intent of seeking some gain or attention are called a parasuicidal behaviour. Cutting wrists, taking benzodiazepines or causing mild self harms etc fall in this category. Patients of borderline personality show such symptoms in association with other depressive symptoms.

Consult a Psychiatrist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Medicines like anti-depressants as Mirtazepine, Fluoxetine, Sertraline, Escitalopram etc are used in both cases. Apart from medicines learn yoga and meditation which will keep you relaxed.

Thanks
