Suggest Treatment For Depression

I am 67 years old and I am having trouble keeping my attention on items that I need to accomplish. Very short attention span. Most times I just walk away from the item I need to do. Then I become I guess you would call depression. I don't become upset, just tired and over whelmed. I am a HAPPY and out going person. Had a very accomplished career, happy marriage, and a wonderful family.

FROM THE INFO PROVIDED BY U, IT SEEMS U HAVE DIFFICULTY IN SUSTAINING ATTENTION OR IN FOCUSING AT THE TASK ON HAND.HOW IS UR RECENT MEMORY? HAVE U BECOME FORGETFUL? ARE U ABLE TO REGISTER NEW INFORMATION? HOW IS UR NEW LEARNING ABILITY?
U HAVE WRITTEN THAT U FEEL OVERWHELMED. DO U MEAN TO SAY THAT UR BRAIN IS GETTING TAXED WHEN U FOCUS ON THE THING/TASK U WANT TO DO? ARE U ABLE TO DO SLIGHTLY COMPLEX CALCULATIONS? THESE ARE SOME OF THE FUNCTIONS WHICH WE NEED TO ASSESS IN DETAIL.
I SUGGEST U MEET A PSYCHIATRIST AND REQUEST FOR A DETAILED ASSESSMENT OF UR HIGHER MENTAL FUNCTIONS, ALSO CALLED AS COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS. AT THIS AGE DEMENTIA, PARTICULARLY ALZHIEMERS DEMENTIA IS A COMMON DISORDER AND WE NEED TO CONSIDER IT AS ONE OF THE POSSIBILITIES. FROM UR INFO, IT IS UNLIKELY TO BE A DEPRESSIVE ILLNESS.
