Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My friends 1 year old daughter just passed away about a week ago my friend is only 20 years old her daughter was her life. She drowned in a pool while her grandma was babysitting her. Recently she started having terrors in the night she screams at the top of her lungs thrashing and kicking. After she is done screaming she gets up and does stuff she writes notes as if its her dead baby writing them, she plays with her toys in her room. And after that she goes back to the bed lays down and wakes up like nothing happend. She tells us she had a dream she was playing with her or watching her baby take over her body and do stuff. We are scared its going to get worse and she is possibly going to hurt herself or someone else.
I am sorry for her loss. It is common in young females to develop severe grief reaction after loss of child. Such symptoms usually last for short times only, but her symptoms like screaming in night, playing with her toys etc are severe and should not be overlooked. As per my opinion consultation of a psychiatrist is advised. For her situation medicines like short term use of benzodiazepines can help. Medicines like clonazepam, alprazolam etc can help to reduce her acute and severe anxiety and will help to pass her time in that bad phase. If symptoms increase in severity then take her to ER.
Thanks, hope this helps you. Take Care
