Suggest Treatment For Depression

I have suffered chronic depression most of my life but have funtioned (worked). It's prevalent in my family. I'm 54 yo, mylab tests are all WNL.. So far no medication has helped.I've never been this bad. My PCP said,"sometimes you just need to pull yourself up by the bootstraps." I can't even work. I have no energy. Are there any medications that can help. I've about to give up.I've tried so many & it's like taking candy.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

You are a healthy male with family history of depression and have normal lab results. You have been on medicines but that didnt work. You are now not able to function normally. Usually if single medicine fails to work for depression then augmentation drugs are used along with commonly used anti-depressants like SSRIs or SNRIs. Lithium, Lamotrigine etc are commonly used for resistant symptoms.

Also as you are not able to function normally and in such case medicines like Amphetamines or Modafinil etc are commonly used. These medicines will help you to function normally and will make your symptoms less in severity. Consult your psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
