Psychiatrist 's  Response
hi..thanks for writing.. i have understood your concerns...

you have said that your father believes that is not real..so it seems that he may be suffering from some kind of psychotic illness...he also tried to suicide which means whatever the illness is, it is very serious...he is on medications for last 2 years and not improving..then in my opinion, u shud not wait and take him to the psychiatrist and get admitted to him at psychiatric facilities, because it will be difficult for u to manage him at home...

your father's detailed evaluation and interview is necessary and making a diagnosis is very important for planning a treatment..

if it is a psychotic depression that it is more severe and requires urgent attention and electroconvulsive therapy may be given...

in my opinion your father shud be taken to psychiatrist and detailed history about his symptoms must be given...after the diagnosis is made..follow the treatment strategy proposed by the treating psychiatrist..

the illness is curable but it is severe and it will take time to recover..

i hope u will find this advice helpful..best of luck...
