Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Doctor,
I am suffering from depression chronically and under a supervision of a psychiatrist. I want to get rid of this depression permanently. I want to become very intelligent and very active too, and social too.
Please advise on this problem and reply
You have depression and are under supervision of a psychiatrist. Depression is treatable with both medicinal and psychological treatment.
Common anti-depressant medicines used in depression are SSRIs like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Sertraline etc or SNRIs are Venlafaxine, Duloxetine etc. These medicines usually start showing effects in about 4-8 weeks and result in improvement of symptoms. I would advise you to please consult your psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs. These drugs will improve confidence and will result in improving social life also.
Omega-3-Fatty Acids and B12 supplements help in early recovery and in improving day to day activity.
Psychological methods includes Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. In this therapy multiple sessions are held to correct abnormal thought processes and cognitive distortions. The therapy has excellent results in depression.
Consult your psychiatrist for these modalities of treatment.
Thanks
