I need to undergo Hernia surgery and fitness cirtificate says risk . What do I do.
Hello there, Thank you for your question. Your current treatment is keeping your blood sugars in good control and so you must continue to be on that regimen of insulin and Glycomet GP2. First of all any surgery is a risk, more so in a diabetic. But hernia surgeries are very commonly done and the risk involved is very low. For what reason does your fitness certificate say risk is the question I would like to know. If I were to give you fitness certificate for hernia surgery from diabetes view point I would have cleared you for surgery. During surgery rarely your sugar levels may go high and they may need to give you higher doses of insulin or if sugars go very low then they may give you dextrose. From diabetes stand point that is the only risk. If there is any other risk then please discuss this with your treating physician or surgeon who I am sure will clear your doubts. Till then do not worry and continue taking your insulin doses and Glycomet GP2 as advised. Hope this helps. Take care.
