Suggest Treatment For Diabetes

5 yrs ago my husband and I had a virus, and both w/i 1 wk of each other spiked glucose reading of 300+. They went away w/i 1-2 wks. He went to KP. I did not. Now they insist on treating him for NIDDM. His Gl levels range from 70-100 fasting, and 90-120 nonfasting. He is Apache, and understands the hereditarey factor, but has never eaten sugar or salt, doesn t drink or do any drugs. He has Hep C post interferon X2, and is nonsymtomatic. Does he, in all reality, need to test daily? Thanx KE

Hello welcome to HCM.

Short ans - No.There is no need for daily glucose monitoring.

Detailed ans - it doesn't seems at present to treat your husband at present for diabetes even.. His blood sugar levels are within normal range at present.
My advice to you is -
1. Normal blood sugar levels are. FBS PP2BS Above this levels, whether he has any symp symptoms or not should be treated for diabetes.

2 . HBA1c will easily diagnose whether your husband really has diabetes or not. So don't allow them to take unnecessary medicines unless proven reports.

3. Also in hepatitis c patients, chances of low blood sugar is high, so be cautious before giving any treatment.
Thank you.
