Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 11 months and have a diaper rash due to her thrash. Her doctor prescribed her nystatin for her mouth and rash, but only her mouth is getting better. She has been on the medicine for 7 days. I have tried everything from washing the area with warm water and no soap, patting it dry , letting her wear no diaper and putting on every ointment every change. Is there a stronger ointment? What should I do?
The diaper rash occurs when a wet diaper in a baby is not changed and is allowed to stay too long. It happens most of the times at night. The wet diaper makes the skin over hydrated, wrinkled, soft and more prone to sloughing and getting a secondary infection, both bacterial and fungal. You should use diaper rash cremes available to prevent rashes. For severe rashes as in your baby, I use Siloderm mix to be applied 3-4 times a day. This has an antibacterial, antifungal, and a mild topical steroid. Keep the area dry and expose to the sun if possible. Avoid using a diaper for a few days and if at all make sure to change if wet.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
