Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea After Antibiotic Treatment
I started to have watery bowel movements after a course of 5-day antibiotic treatment. I am aware of the post hoc fallacy and since it didn t stop, I consulted a Gastroenterologist. Bacteria, parasites and gluten were ruled out as causes and so was glucose intolerance. My dr. suggested microscopic colitis, but the colonoscopy showed no evidence. Are there any other likely causes?
Related your symptoms you should know that treatment with antibiotics can cause diarrhea from clostridium difficile bacteria. Signs and symptoms usually develop within five to 10 days after starting a course of antibiotics.
The most common symptoms of mild to moderate C. difficile infection are watery diarrhea three or more times a day for two or more days and mild abdominal cramping and tenderness. In this case I think first you should try with hydroelectrolytic treatment, probiotics and metronidazole for 5 days talking with your doctor and if you aren't allergic.
I hope my answer help you. Let me know if I can assist you further. I wish you quick recovery.
Regards, Dr. Monika Dede
