Hello.Went on a trip recently and drank heavily 19 out of 24 days. Came back on Monday and today is Sunday. Started having diarreah on Thursday and it hasn t gone away since. Should I go to a hospital? I m starting to think I may have done serious damage. No blood or anything but idt this should be lasting for so long.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, your symptoms seem to be related to a viral infection (gastro enteritis) not related to the drink.

But a toxic hepatitis could not be excluded, because of your recent alcohol abuse.

I recommend going to the ER for a careful physical examination, an abdominal ultrasound and some blood lab test:

- complete blood count
- detailed liver function tests
- kidney function tests
- blood electrolytes

and a stool analysis to establish the real cause of your symptomatology.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
