Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea And Black Stool

I was on vacation . After I had dinner I had black diarrhea at least 10 times. Did not really feel sick but stayed in bed next day. Then did not go next day. Went a little next day and then next day went again twice and very mushy black stool. Did not go again next day or today. Home now. Never had black stools. Two of us had crab legs for that dinner and he had diarrhea a few times but not black. Do I wait until I go to go to doctor because I do not know if it will be black again?

Hello,

There are many reasons stool could appear black, and iron supplements are one reason. However, if you have had gastrointestinal bleeding in the past, there is a foul smell, or the problem goes on for longer than a few days, that's reason to see your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
