Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea When Diagnosed With Chronic Colitis After A Colonoscopy

Diagnosed with chronic colitis after having a colonoscopy. Had diarrhea for 3 weeks with small amounts of bloody stool and severe stomach cramps. After preparation of cleansing the colon before colonoscopy. The diarrhea stopped immediately. Doctor prescribed apriso and steroid medication, I have not taken any medication because I have had no more symptoms. I am now 45 days with no symptoms. My question should medication be taken if I have not had any flare ups or sickness. Also, I have not lost one pound since being diagnosed.

Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM). You must mean to say that you were diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. You have to understand this is a chronic disease with spontaneous remission and exacerbation that is flare. So I will advise you to take medicnes but not steroid at present as the flare is off, but do take apriso as was prescribed to you especially when you are loosing weight also.
