Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea

I ve been experiencing watery stools which then turned to grainy stools since Monday night. I haven t been able to each much as my stomach feels like it won t be able to process any food and I haven t felt hungry either but that I believe is mainly down to the feeling that my stomach couldn t cope with any food. Usually I have a healthy appetite although I do get stomach upsets quite often it s not the sandy grainy sort, usually I ll have 3 or 4 lots of diarrhoea and I ve expelled the problem, but this seems to be lingering a lot longer. Any suggestions on getting my stomach back to normal please?

Hello,
Thank you for your query.
It is not normal to get stomach upsets a lot.

Here are my suggestions:
-get a stool analysis done along with a culture to check for bacteria growth and parasites.
-stay well hydrated- about 3 liters of water (that is if you have no medical reason not to do so) . If the stools are more than two a day and watery, electrolyte replacement will be needed too.

Diet modifications :
- Have smaller and frequent meals and chew food properly
- avoid milk, sugar, carbonated, caffeinated beverages and spicy /oily food
-avoid processed foods and refined grains.
-include whole fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, sprouts in your diet. Natural fiber is fine. Avoid fiber supplements unless you are constipated and can't rectify it with diet modifications.
-lastly stick to home made food. If you have no choice stick to steamed or baked foods from good restaurants.

For the current episode :
-Have probiotics everyday
-notice any foods that trigger or worsen the condition. Even if you were not sensitive to it before you may be sensitive to it now.

I recommend :
- a physician consult
-stool analysis (as mentioned above)
-blood tests (complete blood count, liver function tests)
-colonoscopy to check for intestinal causes of diarrhea.

Hope this helps. I urge you not to take this lightly. Something is not right. Please seek medical attention if this continues or recurs.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Wish you good health
