Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea, stomach Bloating And Nausea

Hi Dr, I ve been sick for the last 5 weeks. It started with severe stomach pain, then vomiting, diarrhoea, bloating, more pain, lethargy, nauseas and a couple of days ago, numbness through my right side of face, back of skull. I have been to hospital 3 times and many tests done with now clear answers. I am booked to have an MRI of the stomach and an Endoscopy in the next 6 weeks. Do you have any idea what this might be? Hello,

Yes, this is most probably a case of food poisoning and nature (well mainly your body's defense) is doing its job by trying to expel the contaminated food you consumed. If you are feeling better then you may not require antibiotic coverage, but if at all you begin to feel worse then do write to me and I can list out some antibiotics you can use. For now here are a few suggestions that can help promote an early recovery:

+Drink plenty of water
+Purchase an ORS (oral rehydration solution) either in the powder or drink form and have at least 1 litre of it per day (apart from the fluids)
+Do not eat anything from outside or anything stale
+Do not eat anything spicy
+Do not have anything fried, fatty or oily
+Avoid smoking and alcohol
+Avoid carbonated drinks
+Have either natural (curds, yogurt, mild, etc.) or readymade probiotics (available in almost all grocery stores and pharmacies)
+Have easily digestible food
+Avoid other medications unless totally necessary
+Use an antacid like ranitidine or pantoprazole for a while (one table 15 minutes before a meal, twice a day)
+Avoid the soda you seem to be having
+Have bland and preferably boiled food
+Have soups, porridge, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
