Suggest Treatment For Diarrhoea And Stomach Cramps After Taking Oysters

I m pregnant. I ve had problems eating oysters in the past but never cooked shellfish. The oysters cause diarrhoea so I assume I m allergic to them. Tonight I ate 4 cooked mussels. I have really bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Can I take allergex? What should I do?

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to possible gastroenteritis. I recommend taking just a lot of fluids and electrolytes (rehydrating solutions) to help stay well hydrated. Spasmex or Buscopan are safe to be taken for the cramps. During pregnancy the drugs that are safe to take are really limited. If the diarrhea persists, I recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and some blood lab tests.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
