Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
77 year old mother keeps complaining that she has trouble breathing. But goes about her day as normal. She works at a day care and doesn t complain about working with those conditions. We took her to see a doctor on many occassions for the last few years, but she continues to complain.
Considering your mother's age, the following are probable causes of her trouble breathing: 1) Chronic obstructive airway disease 2) Heart failure 3) Interstitial fibrosis of lung 4) Kidney failure leading to water retention in lungs 5) Asthma 6) Pneumonia 7) Pneumothorax 8) Heart arrhythmias 9) Pleural effusion 10) Tuberculosis 11) Lung cancer
All the above causes are to be ruled out by investigations like: Chest X-ray PA view CT chest Sputum examination if present ECG 2D echocardiography Pulmonary function tests
Kindly take your mother to a pulmonologist or a physician for complete physical examination and arrival of a diagnosis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
