Well, COPD is a possibility but is a remote one, especially a rare variety called alpha 1 anti trypsin deficiency. But I am thinking of a more probable cause, something related to heart, as the symptoms you have been experiencing may be paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea, but given your age, heart disease is still a possibility.

You might also be having some breathing difficulty due to the excess weight and may be realated to the Obesity. At the same time it is possible that you may have some depressive illness and sleep related problems or a panic attack.

So, at Home, you can measure your Body mass Index, try to normalize it, by reducing your weight, minimize the stressors mental or physical and if the difficulty breathing continues, contact a physician nearby.
