My dad is 89 years old and has been placed on an oxygen tank for the past2 or 3 months. He is constantly using it, and is using more and more oxygen out of the tank. Is there anything he can do so that he won't need to live off the oxygen tank anymore?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Most common cause for breathing difficulty is bronchospasm. So inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone) can be tried in your father's case to see for any improvement. Another possibility is heart failure related breathlessness. In this, diuretics should be tried. So take him to doctor and start appropriate treatment. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your father. Thanks.
