Suggest Treatment For Difficulty In Swallowing For A 28-year-old
My daughter (she is 28) is in a rehab facility( has been there for 10 days) for alcohol abuse, she has had a swollen and red tongue for a few days...it also feels funny in her mouth. Earlier today her throat started to feel swollen and hurting. The nurses have said she is on the list to see the medical Dr tomorrow. All they will give her right now is Cepocol drops and Ibuprofen. Her throat is sore and swollen to the point she is having difficulty swallowing and was unable to eat dinner. She has no fever at this time but she is taking ibuprofen. Should she insist on going to an ER?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Inflammation / irritation of urethra due to any cause can cause this. - Simple tight underwear can cause it. - Infection (bacteria, fungus or viral) - urinary stones can cause it. Careful internal examination & needful investigation would reveal the cause and cause specific treatment would help you. Please consult your family physician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
