Suggest Treatment For Discomfort In The Lower Back And Buttocks

Hi, I have low back and buttock/hamstring discomfort. It has been going on for a couple of months or so and seems to be getting worse over the last two weeks. I do cross fit and have stopped for over a week and still no relief. I was checked for Lyme s and that was negative. Wondering if it could be related to vitamins that I m taking? It is really 24/7 pain and discomfort. I ve tried chiro, PT, massage, cryotherapy, no relief.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Many times backache or pain in the buttocks may occur because of overextending or straining the muscles in the lower back.

Other factors can be Sciatica, degenerative arthritis of the spine, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, etc.

You are suggested to visit ER, get physically examined. Get X-Ray, CT, MRI, EMG done to assess the factor causing you discomfort.

Your treatment will depend upon the severity of the discomfort detected.

Your treating doctor will treat you with muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatory, narcotics, steroid injections, physical therapy or surgery if needed, etc.

In the meantime you may relieve from the symptoms by ding stretch exercises, taking hot/cold packs. For pain, you can take Naproxen, one sos when needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
