Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have had dizziness for about seven months and about 3 months ago I started having vertigo. I saw an ENT who said I may have beginning stages of Meniere s disease even if my hearing was excellent. I saw a neurologist and she sent me to a therapist who did the Epley maneuver and didn t agree with the Meniere s diagnosis and thought I had BPPV and the sensation of the room spinning stopped after the adjustment. I still have a sensation of movement in my head and difficulty sleeping because of it. I have quit my job and am unable to drive. MRI was normal with incidental findings of partially empty sella and kinked optic nerve. I am seeing a neuro-opthamologist in 2 months. I don t know what direction to go from here or what to do as my life has been turned upside down because of this illness. Please give me some direction. Thanks!
Do you have high blood pressure? If you have not checked yet please go and check in doctor's room. Meniere's disease is a triad of sensory neural hearing impairment / loss, tinnitus, vertigo. Thus, there are less chances of having Meniere's disease. Unfortunately, there is no test to detect Meniere's disease.
I would recommend you to undergo X-ray of cervical spine. Giddiness could be due to underlying degenerative changes of cervical spines which compresses the nerve passing through it. I would recommend you to start Stugeron 25mg TDS if you have still same symptom.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Abdul Hamid Mavli, General & Family Physician
