Suggest Treatment For Dizziness, Nausea And Loss Of Appetite

I HAD BEEN TO MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR FOR BP ISSUES AND WAS GIVEN THIS TRIAMTERENE 75MG FOR MY BP WHICH WAS A LITTLE HIGH THEY SAID THAT NIGHT AFTER TAKING IT I WENT TO SLEEP AROUND 1PM DIDNT WAKE UP UNTIL 3AM AFTER WAKING UP I FELT DIZZY AND CONFUSED. I THOUGHT THE MEDS JUST NEEDED TO GET IN MY SYSTEM SO I TOOK ANOTHER PILL ON THIS DAY. AFTER THAT I STARTED TO GET CHILLS, LOSS OF APPETITE, DIZZINESS, UNSTEADY ON MY FEET, NAUSEA. I STOPPED TAKING THE MEDS, AND THEN HAD TO GO TO THE ER TWO WEEKS LATER FOR THE SIDE EFFECTS WHICH HAD ELEVATED AND MY HEART WOULD BE BEATING REALLY FAST. AT THE ER I TOOK AN EKG FOR A MINUTE AND THEY SAID MY HEART LOOK FINE THEY GAVE ME AMLODPINE 5MG TO TAKE DAILY FOR BP IT WAS STILL HIGH AT ER IT WAS 163/91. SINCE THEN WHICH IS 2 MONTHS I STILL HAVE THE SIDE EFFECTS FROM THE TRIAMTERENE I MY HEART STILL BEATS FAST AND I FEEL REALLY BAD LIKE I AM STILL ON THE TRIAMTERENE WHAT DO YOU THINK IS HAPPENING OR DO I JUST NEED TO WAIT FOR IT TO WARE OUT OF MY SYS SYSTEM.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The dizziness is due to fluctuation of the BP. Nausea with loss of appetite indicate GI infection. Salient guidelines for better outcome:

- Consume salt restricted diet.
- Take more liquids.
- Regular intake of anti-hypertensive medicines.
- Anti-emetic as ondansetron, PPI as Omeprazole and GI specific antibiotic helps great.
- Discuss the need of lab tests for further guidance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
