Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have a family member who smokes pot as much as three times a day and has for years...he has afib (4 procedures so far) and has high blood pressure...and takes prescription meds...i think all this is caused by his use of marijuana...any help you can give me?
There are a few medicines available which can reduce the craving for cannabis but just taking these medicines will not solve the problem, especially in someone who has been on cannabis for so long. First of all, find out if he wishes to quit or not. If he doesn't, it will not be easy for you to help him. Once he is ready to quit, take him to a good psychiatrist who can assess for any other conditions that may be contributing to his cannabis use. Proper treatment can make a difference.
Best wishes.
